The Small Business Struggle
As a creatives & business owners, its often hard to relate to people. People can say they understand the struggle of working full time, building a business on the side, and trying to live a full life – but do they really? Unless they’re going through it themselves, its sometimes hard to truly connect with people. To feel fully understood. Especially when you scroll through social media and see how your peers have their shit together. Let’s be real though. We all know that no one’s life is as beautifully curated as it seems, but until you talk to someone face to face, you never truly know what’s going on behind the scenes.
One thing that I took away from my experience at the AKP Retreat this past weekend is that we all are striving for success. Of course, our definitions of success differ, and we’re all at different points in our business, but we’re not really that different at all. We all start our day with a cup coffee and a mile-long to do list, trying to figure out this crazy self-employed life with little direction or guidance. We’re all just trying to make our dreams come true, all while overcoming the struggles, obstacles, and even failures that come with this journey.
I learned things about my fellow AKP creatives that I could have never imagined. As cliche as it sounds, you can never truly judge a book by its cover, or believe everything you see on the internet. So let’s all be kind and accepting. Let’s be a support system for one another, and build each other up rather than tearing each other down. You never know how something so simple as holding the door, giving a compliment, or extending gratitude can drastically brighten someone’s day. <3
